Problems

Famine around the world. There was not enough food for everyone in the world. Some people are starving.

Facts:

  • Nearly 842 million people are suffering from hunger.

  • Hunger kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

  • The world produces enough food to feed all 7 billion people who live in it, but those who go hungry either do not have land to grow food or money to purchase it.

Did you know the problems that agricultural advances are facing?

  • Environmental damage due to overuse of fertilizers and pesticides

  • Loss of biodiversity and health concerns related to genetically engineered foods

  • The nutrients fertilizer provides to plants can also damage them if used in excess. But the damage from the misuse of fertilizer doesn't stop at your plants. It creates problems for the environment too, especially aquatic life.

  • Excessive fertilizer eventually drains into bodies of water which can cause polution and negative impacts on fish

  • Negative environmental impacts from unsustainable farming practices include:

  • Land conversion & habitat loss

  • Wasteful water consumption

  • Soil erosion and degradation

  • Pollution

  • Climate change

  • Genetic erosion
